After 8 long years away, I finally made it back down under. I grew up in Sydney and left here when I was 25 to pursue my dreams in America. It’s safe to say that was a solid decision and one I would never change. Now coming back after all this time, I feel I’ve grown as a person. And being able to share the experience of Australia with my kids and having them spend time with family they’ve barely seen (or in some cases never seen) has been quite special. I definitely want to embrace my homeland once again and create opportunities in this great city and great country, so I can be here more often with the family. Sydney is such a beautiful city. Very clean and very aesthetic. It’s definitely a safe place to be, and it’s great to experience it with a fresh set of eyeballs and a ton more life experience since the last time I was here. At the time I left, I didn’t appreciate its beauty as much as I do now because my heart was set on America.

It’s been the little things about being back at home that have been most exciting to me. Family for one. But also the aesthetics of the city, the ocean and the harbor. Sydney is quite the place, and I’m glad I can rekindle some of the love that I have for this place that I do recall having growing up. Especially around the time of the Olympics in 2000, I was quite in love with the place. Another thing for me has been the food. From my mum’s baked dinner, to the coffee and cakes and the Thai food, the food quality in Australia is quite superior to that of the USA, in terms of the flavor of the ingredients that go into the food. Don’t get me wrong, we have great food in LA but I just feel it’s fresher down under. Another thing I’ve had to get used to again is driving on the other side of the road and driving in the other side of the vehicle. One thing I don’t like is the endless number of speed cameras and constant change of speed limits to really confuse you. But you gotta take the good with the bad sometimes. Also, even though we speak English, it’s a different language to some degree because some things have such different meanings. So having to get back into that groove and re-learn that again has been fun. All in all it’s been a pretty great week here, and I am looking forward to the one ahead before we head back to LA.
