Surplus Daniel Patrick picks up where the Daniel Patrick main line left off. Taking the same design cues and inspiration from our main line and taking that a step further to create its own brand. I have long been inspired by military surplus stores as well as vintage stores and often would get a lot of inspiration perusing the racks of my favourite surplus stores and vintage stores in Los Angeles. I love the quality and durability of the pieces found in these stores and the fact that the items are made for a purpose and made to be worn and used. It's the same way I am with my favourite Standard Tee. I love it just as much after many washes as I do wearing a fresh one. In fact, I love the character it has when it has been worn in.
Coming around to Surplus Daniel Patrick, I had been wanting to create a line that doesn't take away from what we are doing on the more luxury side of our business, that could stand alone and add to it. I have always been in awe of the likes of Ralph Lauren and how he is able to create worlds within worlds and span from luxury to the masses. Each line being its own brand within the brand. Similar to how Land Rover has dubbed itself a house of brands with the Defender, Discovery and Range Rover, all built for different purposes targeting different audiences but with that Land Rover feel.
Surplus Daniel Patrick is created in this vein. A brand within the brand that is true enough to the Daniel Patrick name, but a brand in and of itself and one that I am excited to explore its full potential. It was a light bulb moment for me coming up with this line and when the right idea comes about, it tends to move like wild fire and that excites me.
