Last week I took my first trip to NY for this year, and I thought to myself whilst driving into the city from New Jersey how visiting New York was merely a dream when I was a wide-eyed kid growing up in Sydney. For me, it was the place of my dreams and where I wanted to be. Obviously plans change, as they do in life, and I ended up settling in Los Angeles, which I love. But I just thought to myself how cool it is that this is my life. It was a basic, simple moment where I had to pinch myself. And it was funny to me to reflect like that because it’s not like I haven’t been there before. I have been many times and had many milestones in the city, namely a presentation during fashion week a few years back, the launch of our line with Adidas and James Harden and the opening of our (now shuttered) Soho store. But here I was appreciative of the place I was at truly in that moment. It was a simple pleasure to be in New York City - a place people dream of, like I once did. It is also exciting too because we are planning something in the city that will be almost two years in the making and finally coming to fruition.
When I visit New York. I generally stick to my favorite spots. A Knicks game at MSG, food and coffee at Ruby’s, some window shopping in Soho and some pancakes at Clinton Street Bakery in the Lower East Side or over to Jack’s Wife Frieda in Soho. I keep it simple and I keep it consistent and I know what I like. Just being in the city I feel the energy and the vibe, and it inspires me to do more and be more and I love that about it. Just over ten years ago, I remember hustling around to stores all over the city dropping off my lookbook just dreaming of making it and hoping someone would pick me up. I am also inspired to open another store at some point down the road too, so I keep my eye out for those opportunities. Just doing my due diligence and reconnaissance of where I would want to be a second time around. I will be back and forth to New York a lot this year and look forward to the year of travel ahead.
