The Sunday Paper: Interest

I feel it is far more important for me as a designer, and a person for that matter, to be interested rather than being interesting. I feel like being interesting makes one complacent in a sense because they are shut off from being able to observe, and it's far more important to me to be interested in life, my products and most importantly people. I like people, and I enjoy meeting new people, chatting with them about life and also seeing what they like and dislike. This is why I enjoy being on the floor in my own store, as you get to meet a lot of interesting people from all walks of life and from all over the world. You also gain valuable feedback and information on what people like and dislike. And seeing my product on people and how it makes them look and feel, there is no better feeling in my opinion. If I can improve my product in any way too, I’m always looking for that.

The Sunday Paper: Interest

It’s those 1% improvements that over the years become giant leaps in quality and detail, and that’s what sets our product apart. Being interested in observing and finding these improvements, one has to get past the idea that any design can be perfect. When one creates an amazing product, it is too easy and too common for one to rest upon their laurels and get passed up at some point. So one has to stay on the pulse and always be looking for ways to improve, whether ever so slightly. It’s when you cease to create on things that you lay yourself at risk of ceasing to exist. I know for myself I have been heavy on creating and improving and expanding over the past 12 months, and I have no doubt this will pay dividends in the long run, as I love what I do and I love creating new products and seeing people enjoy them.
