2020 // A year in review

When we went into 2020 it sounded like it was going to be the best year of our lives, a year that sounds like perfect vision couldn't help but deliver us with the best opportunity to advance. Little did we know what was in store for us in the coming weeks and months. Well pretty soon hindsight will indeed be 2020, and we can reflect on a year we will never forget.

Despite all that I like to focus on the positives and the moments of joy that were scattered amongst it. For me, the highlight came just before the pandemic hit in March - a trip to Chicago for NBA All-Star for the launch of our Adidas collab with James Harden where he would wear a special edition Harden Vol 4 DP colorway. It was even more meaningful for me because as a kid growing up in Australia, I idolized the great Michael Jordan and the Bulls and dreamed of visiting the great city of Chicago and the famed United Center and all its storied history. So that indeed was quite special, and even more special were the connections we made with inner city kids in the Adidas Legacy Program Apparel Design Lab. What a week that was for me personally and professionally.

In addition to that experience, we also had the opportunity to have our name up in lights at the Staples Center for the Rockets v Lakers game highlighting our Adidas collab. Another great moment and one I will never forget.

Our LA Times article was also quite humbling for me and definitely a highlight for 2020, along with also being named in their best sneakers of 2020.

This year was also special as our clothes were featured in a drop in NBA 2K. This was a surreal experience to say the least, as NBA 2K has become a large part of the culture of basketball. It is also one of the activities my son and I enjoy playing together, so in that respect it makes it even more special for me personally.

A highlight for me always is our clothes being featured in NBA tunnel walk fits. When the NBA shut down in April, we not only lost the game of basketball but also the fashion too. The bubble became quite the showcase of cozy fits when play resumed in July and is always a buzz to see our stuff featured.

Another highlight for me this year was The Last Dance documentary. An inspirational look inside the Bulls and all the drama and stories behind the headlines. I think I watched it about 4 or 5 times, if not more. This documentary came along just at the right time when people needed a little boost of inspiration. It certainly did for me and most definitely inspired a few new ideas on my part. What an era the 90s were in the NBA and in fashion for that matter.

As 2021 approaches, I hope it brings a new dawn. I think we can all agree though that we are happy to see the end of 2020 and the beginning of a fresh new year that brings a lot of hope with it. May it be a prosperous one for us all.

Happy New Year!
